Thomas W. Langlas
Thomas W. Langlas is a life long resident of Waterloo, Iowa. He commenced practicing law in 1967, and has been in continuous practice ever since.
He is a member of the following professional associations: the American, Iowa State, and Black Hawk County Bar Associations. From 2002 to 2004 he was chair of the Family and Juvenile Law Section of the Iowa State Bar Association. He is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Langlas is a frequent speaker at legal seminars throughout the State of Iowa.
Mr. Langlas graduated from the college of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1964, with a degree in Political Science. He received his J.D. Degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1967, where he was president of the student government during his third year.
His current practice emphasizes family law, mediation and arbitration, and general litigation. He is listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” 1995 to the present, and has been named a “Super Lawyer” in the State of Iowa.
He has been very active in the community, and has been president of the following organizations: the Waterloo Jaycees; the Waterloo Boys-Girls Club; the Black Hawk County Chapter of the American Cancer Society; the Cedar Valley Arboretum and Botanical Gardens; the Waterloo Community Playhouse and Black Hawk Children’s Theater (twice); and Cedar Valley Hospice.
Mr. Langlas served for eighteen (18) years on the Waterloo Planning, Programing and Zoning Commission, and was its chairperson for fifteen (15) years. He was chairperson of the Waterloo Center for the Arts Commission from 2004 to 2008. He co-chaired a capital campaign, that raised over 6 million dollars for the construction and furnishing of the Phelps Youth Pavilion attached to the Waterloo Center for the Arts.
